Senior Software Firmware Development Engineer

Location: South East, United Kingdom

£up to 76k Base +Strong Bonus + Car Allowance

As an experienced software firmware development engineer you will lead the electrical firmware and software definition, development, and delivery of system level solutions, consisting of multiple interconnected components, from different engineering disciplines, into future new product development within the Engineering Department for a global R&D organisation. 


Key Responsibilities




  • System Design Specification – work with necessary stakeholders and prepare firmware requirements specification and contribute to the overall system design

  • System Functional and Non-Functional Analysis – carry out firmware functional and non-functional analysis and investigations to create the user stories for the product

  • Evaluate multiple system design concepts and maintain balance between the product and its components  System Functional and Physical Architecture development - propose new and different methods and processes to achieve product performance

  • Investigate new technologies on new product developments in next generation markets

  • Product Verification and Validation – design and develop system integration plan and tests related to firmware features and functionality

  • Lead System Integration and test (EVT and DVT)

  • Assist with safety certification testing and country specific homologation

  • Lead cross-functional technical and design reviews on the products

  • Responsible for product documentation from initial proposals through first production release

  • Assist with production and field failure analysis as required

  • Liaise with cross category architecture teams to maintain alignment with the specified programs, as well as electrical and physical architecture

  • Working with our internal teams and/ or development partners, create functional designs, demonstrating how the system satisfies the defined customer requirements


Qualifications and Experience




  • Bachelor’s degree: major in software/firmware/embedded solutions engineering

  • Previous experience in product firmware development and requirement definition and/or firmware system architecture design, firmware requirements creation and / or product verification testing

  • Previous experience launching a consumer electronic product into volume production

  • Previous experience developing firmware for battery powered consumer electronics devices

  • Previous experience conducting code reviews, code quality reviews, and IEC code safety reviews

  • Previous experience working as a member of a development team

  • Fluent in firmware development software tools such as C++ and embedded C

  • Fluent with at least two families of microprocessor development, such as Atmel, ARM Cortex, STM32 or other equivalent family of processors.
