Electrical Engineer (PCBA/ design)

Location: South East, United Kingdom

c£up to 55k Base +Bonus

As an experienced electrical engineer (with PCBA) developing products with a pivotal role in the design and development of new products global R&D organisation.  As an electrical product engineer you will lead the detailed design and definition of the unique Consumer (and Manufacturing) product features arising from the portfolio of innovation projects.  As an electrical engineer you will deliver technical projects to develop electromechanical devices providing technical electrical support across project teams, ensuring good product design and product safety are an integral part of the overall device system.


Principal Accountabilities




  • Application of knowledge in PCBA design to understand, interpret and implement internal design approaches

  • Application of knowledge in electrical engineering to support the prototyping and testing of product development samples

  • Capable knowledge in the design of devices containing PCBA (including MCU), as well as power management (including lithium ion cells, charging, discharging)

  • Application of knowledge and experience to implement Best Practice and ensure technical teams are applying industry standard best practice, such as APQP

  • Application of DoE to ensure high quality results are achieved in the most efficient (time/cost) approach

  • Identifying and predicting potential failure modes and causes, as well as identifying mitigation approaches

  • Interpretation and presentation of data for submission to Management/Technical Review

  • Lead small cross-functional teams, acting as technical expert on electronic and mechanical aspects of the project

  • Active involvement in the coaching and training of team members, building the knowledge base within the team


Knowledge, Skills Qualifications and Experience




  • A degree - e.g. electronics, electromechanical engineering,  mechatronics or electrical engineering

  • Solidworks essential

  • Consumer goods industry (household appliances, Philips, Dyson), maybe mobile phones, laptops, computer – connectivity and wireless mobile phone development – industrial design of the phone

  • Experience within mass manufacture consumer electronics industry

  • Specialists in PCBA design, sensors, wireless or other field within electrical engineering

  • Proven experience of electronic engineering projects, resulting in a thorough knowledge of mechanical and electronic device design; preferable experience would be in the area of high-volume consumer goods in the electromechanical device category

  • Good awareness of designing and validating consumer products in a regulated environment, design for manufacture, electronic and software engineering

  • Working knowledge of CAD software (Solidworks or similar)
